Exterior Signage System Collaboration 2017/2018

I was given the opportunity to come together on this timber frame style signage project with On Point!  Jesse and his team, of On Point, and I worked with Pete, of Naukabout, to design and construct a signage system that would best reflect the essence of their craft as well as display strongly in the 3 locations on the property. While taking heavy consideration into environment, we chose untreated timbers, which were then treated with many, many coats of an environmentally friendly oil and and varnish that will help withstand the elements.

Logo Revamp

The original logo was revised to better reflect the essence of the brewery and their new direction! A few things were done to update this logo that already had a strong foundation. I softened the edges of the Cape Cod profile, reformed the lines of the lighthouse to have a more casual, brush-like effect and removed some elements that created clutter and weren't needed elements.

Hand Cut

For my canvas, the sign material itself, we had to keep 2 things in mind. We wanted the wood grain showing as its part of the brand identity and we also needed to choose something that would withstand exterior usage. So, I purchased Okoume Plywood, which is a marine grade plywood with really nice warm tones and high quality grain on both sides!

Happy & Tired

After spacing out letters, printing reference templates, taping off and a trip to Boston to purchase specialty sign painters enamel for the 3 coats of color, and dismanteling parts of our living room to work in a warm space, it was finally time to lay on some oil! The signs truly came to life!

Exterior Projection Signage

If something works, why change it? Well, that's just the case for Nicole and Ashley, owners of Cape Cod's first ever escape room, Riddle.

Nicole and Ashley have been long-time clients of mine with their other venture, Hot Diggity. When they got the bee in their bonnet for this new business, they immediately reached out to me to brand this new adventure of theirs too!  From logo and print marketing, all the way to their exterior signage, we've got Riddle Cape Cod, covered.

CONSTRUCTION

This sign is 32x32 and hung on hardware designed for commercial application, while esthetically fitting in with the dark, yet modern branding we've developed for Riddle.

The base is marine grade Okoume wood that has been prepped and sealed for multi-layered painting application. All paint is exterior grade, combined with sign-painters enamel for long-lasting durability. The sign was finished and sealed with multiple layers of marine-grade satin-finish SPAR varnish.

If there's one thing you need to be mindful of your precision, it's the logo! All hand-painted logos have a template I create and use as a guide to assure accurate placement and letter spacing. Then the fun of going back in and filling in with those beautiful brush strokes!

Can't let any water get in!  All exposed surfaces must be sealed and prepped for exterior elements. We lined the holes for the hardware bolts with a plastic tube and filled the gaps with plumbers silicone!
